This food and wine tour offers a unique opportunity to explore the cultural and culinary heritage of Georgia, from the historic Old Town of Tbilisi to the vineyards of Kakheti and the breathtaking mountain scenery of Kazbegi. Trip Highlights
Day 1: Tbilisi Wine Tasting Tour
- Arrival in Tbilisi, check-in at hotel or private villa
- Start your day with a visit to a traditional Georgian winery, where you can learn about the country's unique winemaking techniques. Georgia is famous for its use of qvevri, large clay pots buried underground to ferment and age wine.
- Enjoy a wine tasting experience and try some of the country's signature wines, such as Saperavi and Rkatsiteli. You may also have the opportunity to try some of the winery's homemade chacha, a traditional Georgian brandy.
- Have lunch at a local restaurant and try some of the delicious Georgian cuisine, such as khachapuri (cheese-filled bread) or khinkali (dumplings filled with meat or cheese).
- In the afternoon, explore Tbilisi's Old Town on foot. Visit local markets and shops to sample traditional Georgian sweets and snacks, such as churchkhela (candy made of grape must and nuts) and gozinaki (caramelized nut clusters).
- In the evening, visit a wine bar in Tbilisi's trendy Vake neighborhood. Enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the local atmosphere.
Day 2: Tbilisi Culinary Tour
- Start your day with a cooking class at a local restaurant. Learn how to make some of Georgia's most famous dishes, such as lobio (bean stew) or khinkali (dumplings filled with meat or cheese).
- After the cooking class, take a guided tour of the city's culinary hotspots. Visit Tbilisi's best restaurants, cafes, and food markets to sample traditional Georgian dishes and delicacies, such as chakapuli (lamb stew with tarragon and plums) and tklapi (fruit leather).
- Have lunch at one of Tbilisi's top restaurants, where you can enjoy a range of Georgian dishes in a stylish and modern setting.
- In the afternoon, visit a local wine cellar to learn more about Georgia's winemaking traditions. Enjoy a wine tasting experience and try some of the country's most famous wines.
- In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Indulge in a range of Georgian dishes and wines, and toast to a fantastic wine and food tour in Tbilisi.
Day 3
- Depart from Tbilisi in the morning and drive to your private villa in Kachreti.
- Enjoy a welcome drink and settle in to your luxurious accommodations.
- Depart head to the Bodbe Monastery, the final resting place of Saint Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia in the 4th century. Explore the monastery's beautiful gardens and chapel, and take in the stunning views of the Alazani Valley.
- Next, visit the Tsinandali Estate, the former home of Alexander Chavchavadze, a Georgian nobleman and poet. Take a tour of the estate's beautiful gardens and wine cellar, and enjoy a wine tasting.
- Have lunch in Telavi, the administrative center of the Kakheti region, where you can try some of the delicious Georgian cuisine at a local restaurant.
- In the afternoon, visit the historical sites and landmarks in Telavi, such as the Batonis-Tsikhe Fortress, the Erekle II Palace, and the Alaverdi Monastery.
- Return to your private villa in Kachreti for a relaxing evening.
Day 4: Kakheti
- Start your day with a visit to the Kvareli Winery, located in the heart of the Kakheti wine region. Take a tour of the winery's extensive tunnel system, which stretches for several kilometers, and sample some of their award-winning wines.
- Next, visit the nearby Gremi Fortress, a 16th-century castle and architectural landmark of Kakheti. Explore the castle's ruins and learn about the history of the region.
- Have lunch at a local restaurant, where you can try some of the delicious Georgian cuisine paired with the local wines.
- In the afternoon, visit a local farmer's market and learn about the fresh produce and ingredients used in Georgian cuisine.
- Return to your private villa in Kachreti for a relaxing evening.
Day 5: Kazbegi
- Depart from your private villa in Kachreti and drive towards Kazbegi, a picturesque town located in the mountains of northern Georgia.
- En route, stop at the Ananuri Fortress, a medieval castle complex situated on the Aragvi River. Explore the fortress and its beautiful surroundings.
- On the way, stop at a traditional Georgian restaurant to taste some of the local cuisine, including khinkali, khachapuri, and mtsvadi.
- Continue your drive through the stunning Georgian landscapes, including the Jvari Pass and the Gudauri panoramic view.
- Continue the journey and arrive in Kazbegi. Check into a hotel and rest for a while.
- Visit to a local farm to taste organic Georgian cheeses and honey
- In the evening, enjoy a traditional Georgian dinner at your hotel, featuring hearty dishes like khachapuri (cheese bread) and chakapuli (lamb stew with herbs and sour plums).
Day 6: Kazbegi to Tbilisi
- After breakfast at your hotel, drive to the nearby town of Stepantsminda for a guided hike to the Gergeti Trinity Church, a 14th-century mountaintop monastery with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
- Visit Winery in Kazbegi, where you can taste some of the local wines and enjoy a light lunch.
- Drive to the Dariali Gorge, a breathtaking natural wonder with steep cliffs and a rushing river.
- Visit the Gveleti waterfall and enjoy a hike in the surrounding area.
- Next, visit a local beekeeper and learn about the traditional Georgian honey-making process. Sample different types of honey paired with local cheese and bread.
- Lunch at a local restaurant featuring traditional Georgian dishes such as kubdari, khashlama, and trout from mountain rivers, paired with local wines
- Return to Tbilisi in the evening and depart for the airport.
